When considering safari holidays in Kenya it is easy to imagine what you might come across on your travels, such as wildlife and amazing landscapes, but a Kenya holiday has much more to offer. Carefully research your Kenya holiday before you set off on your magnificent adventure and you will not be disappointed.
Mount Kilimanjaro, which is in Tanzania, is the most popular trekking tourist attraction to be found in Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro offers trekkers the challenge of the highest mountain peak on the continent and perhaps surprisingly, you don't need specialist equipment in order to reach its summit. Other challenging and rewarding treks offering fantastic views and peaks are the Fish River Canyon, which is in Namibia and Wild Coast, which can be found in South Africa.
Approximately 180 km north of Nairobi you will find Mount Kenya. This is Africa's second highest mountain, (after Kilimanjaro) and again, you won't need specialist equipment in order to reach either of the two peaks. Mount Kenya is best climbed during the months of January to February or July to October. You will find huts situated on the mountain for accommodation purposes or campsites for those who are camping on their Kenya holiday.
If your Kenya holiday is in the mid-range bracket then you can expect to have a private room, but eating facilities tend to be in a caf style eating area, which can on occasions give a feeling of being in a canteen. If you are fortunate enough to be on the top-end of a Kenya holiday package then your trip will be designed to give you a more personalised experience with all your home creature comforts that you have come to expect.
The timing of your Kenya holiday is vitally important if you want to experience wildlife at its best, though it is true to say that you can visit Kenya all through the year. The rainy season tends to be from March to May, so if visiting during this time, it can be very quiet all round and you will need to check that destinations are still open to tourists. December and January are the most popular times to visit as they are the hot and dry, cooler months, but June to August will still be dry.
If a game drive is high on your wish list for your safari holiday experience, be sure to make the timing perfect. Of course they can take place any time during the day, but they are usually early morning, during mid-morning and later on in the afternoon. Night drives can be fantastic but are not allowed at all venues.
Set up originally to protect the black rhino and other endangered species, a real must see is the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The park itself is very well maintained and offers the opportunity to see the park either by traditional safari methods, or perched on a camel!
Finally, sit back and enjoy your Kenya holiday, keep your eyes peeled and your senses heightened.
