Antigua or La Antigua is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala. Antigua is famous for colonial Baroque architecture as well as ruins of colonial churches which can be seen very easily on your walks throughout the City. It was originally founded in it's current location in the year 1543. Antigua has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Antigua is a large hot spot for tourism as it is a clean, beautiful and safe city. Also a large Ex-patriot community resides in Antigua. Antigua is located about 40 minutes by car from La Aurora International Airport (Guatemala City).
A visit to Tikal National Park where you are able to see the largest excavated site on the American continent, at a size of over 560 square Kilometers. A trip to Tikal in the jungles in the province of Peten is many tourists highlight of their trip to Guatemala
Guatemala has black sand beaches along is picturesque west coast. This is where one can lay back in a hammock and relax and enjoy the waves crashing down onto the beach. There are a number of small towns along the coast of Guatemala's pacific ocean that have beautiful beaches.
