East Africa is not the most traveled-to place by any means and most of the people who travel to Kenya have a purpose for going there. Your stay could include a few nights in a treetop hotel that is built, as the name implies, in the tops of the trees, over a favorite animal watering hole. You will have to arise early if you wish to catch a glimpse of some of those creatures, as they may only be there in the early morning hours. Ever watchful, the prey will be wary of the hunters and quite skittish. It could be that you may witness a kill. It can happen.

Just imagine that you are on safari and there in the distant you see a great herd of elephants feeding off the greenery from the trees and sharing some of the area with the gigantic giraffes. This is a sight you won't soon forget.

There are a vast number of birds to be found on the savannas of Africa. From African birds of prey such as the eagle, vulture and owl to the flightless ostrich and five foot tall, long legged flamingo, they all are a sight to see. When huge flocks of birds take to the sky, its almost like a dance as they lift off, bank and dip, then turn skyward. They can be preyed upon by the larger eagle, too, but eagles do like their monkey, as well. They can dispatch a large monkey and carry it off like it were a feather, clutched in their wickedly sharp talons.

Large creatures, such as the water loving and living hippopotamus and horned rhinoceros, roam the prairies and river banks in groups. Both can be quite cantankerous so be aware of where they are when you are observing them. Rhinos have been known to overturn trucks in their mad dashes of rage. They are very dangerous. If you are cruising in the river, that is where you would be likely to come across the hippo. They stay much of the time beneath the surface, feeding on succulent growth on the river bottom. If you get too close they might upset your boat.
