West Coast Travel, USA - Traveling the whole of the United States cities will possibly cost you a year or more perhaps. America has its share of dazzling cities and we will highlight these by region in a series of articles. Most of the cities along the western coast of the United States were founded during the "Gold Rush" days of America as are many of the states and cities in the Middle West coast of the US. This answers why most cities in this region are associated with 'cowboys and sheriffs'. As time has gone by, these cities did not languish on past tales of grandeur, but developed into historically and culturally rich metropolises. You will also enjoy and be amazed at how these cities dramatically evolved into progressive zones today without drastically distracting from their colorful origin and culture.
SEATTLE - The annual Seattle International Film festival is one of the most awaited happening in Seattle that excites not just the locals but also a growing count of fans in different parts of the country and even in the other parts of the world. It is one of the events in Seattle that draws attention and quite a number of tourists. Apart from this, Seattle is also a favorite host for many religious festivals. Festivals and celebrations of different indigenous and international cultures also culminate in this part of the west coast. You can find a great number of museums, parks, cultural sites and heritage homes as well as national parks and zoos all in Seattle. Located very close to the border of Canada and the US, Seattle is one of the most northern metropolitan areas in the United States. It is also the gateway of the US to Alaska and of the North Pacific.
PORTLAND - The City of Roses, as Portland is known came by this name due to the climate being ideal for growing the beautiful flowering bush in all forms. Portland lies in the Marine west coast climate and is marked by warm, dry summers and rainy but temperate winters. The International Rose Test Garden resides here and contributes to the city being referred to as one of the most "green" cities in the world. A large and growing number of coffee houses and distributors, micro-breweries and micro-distilleries list Portland as their home and many of these social sites have given life to an underground music industry. Portland is geologically interesting in that it rests on an extinct volcanic field known as the Boring Lava Field. The potentially active Mount Hood is east of Portland and the active Mount Saint Helens is visible in the distant north of the city. Diversity has permeated the city and it is considered a haven for numerous movements and subcultures including punk, hardcore, crust punk and anarchist movements. As Portland is home to a diverse array of artists and arts organizations, the Portland Art Museum is a must see as well as the Portland Classical Chinese Garden, an authentic representation of Suzhou-style walled garden.
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco is known all over the world as one of the largest and most diverse cities. If you will see the Golden Gate Bridge, you will know you are in the heart of San Francisco. Aside from this magnificent landmark, San Francisco may be better known for the Bay Area. Located near the Pacific Coast, the population of San Francisco is a very diverse with a great number of the population being of Asian origin. This makes San Francisco one of the few places in the US where there is a fusion of international cuisines, resulting in a unique San Francisco style. Dining here is convenient especially for tourists since you can find all kinds of taste your palate may want. It is surely a great experience to dine in San Francisco and relax in its very sublime skyline.
LOS ANGELES - Home to Hollywood, Los Angeles is the city of glimmering lights and show-biz life. Los Angeles is home to all 6 major movie studios and the grand concert halls and arenas for most of the music recording and production scenes in the US. The infamous Beverly Hills where celebrities and the wealthy have homes is at the heart of this fabulous city. Apart from the colorful and bright lights of celebrity festivals, Los Angeles also has one of the most luxurious and extravagant stretches of beaches. Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and Malibu are the most famous beaches which are part of the Los Angeles coastline. This is why most people whose names appear in the famous Forbes List have a mansion or two in this very lively city. Beyond the fame and glitter, what people don't know is that Los Angeles' history originates during the Spanish colonial reign in America.
